Government urged to buy ‘game changer’ Covid-19 drug treatment | RNZ News
Generally the monoclonal antibodies (Mabs) are not required for healthy people who are not at added risk of serious illness from Covid-19. They are targeted towards older people or those with other added risk factors, such as asthma, kidney or lung disease, obesity or diabetes.
Australia approved one of them, Sotrovimab, and had it in the country ready to use in mid-August.
“The sotrovimab treatment requires a single dose to be administered through an intravenous (IV) infusion in a health care facility and has been shown to reduce hospitalisation or death by 79 percent in adults with mild to moderate Covid-19, who are at risk of developing severe Covid-19,” Health Minister Greg Hunt said.

Texas has nearly 2 million people overdue for second COVID-19 vaccine dose | The Texas Tribune (Me: A special kind of dumb in Texas?)
a large number of Texans apparently have decided to stick with one dose of the two-dose Moderna or Pfizer vaccines: 1.89 million have missed their second dose as of Sept. 6, according to the Texas Department of State Health Services. More than 1 million of them are more than 90 days overdue for their second dose.
That means that of those who received a first dose, 11% haven’t gotten their second shot within the recommended time frame.
“Those numbers [confirm] a lot of what we have been seeing. We knew it,” said Dr. James McDeavitt, the executive vice president and dean of clinical affairs at Baylor College of Medicine. “It’s problematic. It always has been, but it’s even more problematic with the delta variant.”

Covid booster vaccine rollout to begin next week – BBC News
Health Secretary Sajid Javid said he had accepted advice from the JCVI that around 30m people should be offered a third dose – Scotland, Wales and Northern Ireland have followed suit.
The booster should be given at least six months after a second dose – with the Pfizer jab recommended.
Those eligible include over-50s, younger adults with health conditions and frontline health and care workers.
