Trump’s national security adviser says Pompeo signed ‘surrender agreement’ with Taliban: ‘We defeated ourselves’ | The Independent

HR McMaster, one of Donald Trump’s former national security advisers, has condemned the deal struck with the Taliban during the previous administration as a “surrender agreement”. “Our secretary of state [Mike Pompeo] signed a surrender agreement with the Taliban,” Mr McMaster said on Bari Weiss’ podcast Honestly. “This collapse goes back to the capitulation agreement of 2020. The Taliban didn’t defeat us. We defeated ourselves.” Mr McMaster has hit out at both the Trump and Biden administrations for their handling of the US withdrawal from Afghanistan, but he has long been critical of the agreement signed during his former boss’s term in office. The retired US Army lieutenant general is one of many former senior Trump officials who have sought to distance themselves from the Taliban peace deal that was signed in February 2020, as chaos gripped the capital Kabul over the past week.

Here are two sentences of truth about the US and Afghanistan | The Kansas City Star

One: For 20 years, politicians, elites and D.C. military leaders lied to us about Afghanistan.

Two: What happened last week was inevitable, and anyone saying differently is still lying to you.

I know because I was there. Twice. On special operations task forces. I learned Pashto as a U.S. Marine captain and spoke to everyone I could there: everyday people, elites, allies and yes, even the Taliban.

The truth is that the Afghan National Security Forces was a jobs program for Afghans, propped up by U.S. taxpayer dollars — a military jobs program populated by nonmilitary people or “paper” forces (that didn’t really exist) and a bevy of elites grabbing what they could when they could.

Firefox Follows Chrome and Prepares To Block Insecure Downloads – Slashdot

Mozilla developers are putting the finishing touches on a new feature that will block insecure file downloads in Firefox. From a report:Called mixed content downloaded blocking, the feature works by blocking files downloads initiated from an encrypted HTTPS page but which actually take place via an unencrypted HTTP channel. The idea behind this feature is to prevent Firefox users from getting misled by the URL bar and think they’re downloading a file securely via HTTPS when, in reality, the file could be tampered with by third parties while in transit. First U.S. COVID deaths earlier — and in different places — than previously thought

the far-flung nature of the deaths — in the West, Midwest and South — might suggest that restrictions on travel and social interactions should have been used in more places much earlier — and that such rapid response could be a more critical tool in the next pandemic. In January, when the United States announced it would begin limiting travel from China and other international hotspots, the virus may already have been speeding across state borders. Covid Scotland: Deaths of 92 people despite receiving two vaccine doses | The National

“Evidence has shown that vaccination is highly effective in protecting against death from coronavirus (Covid-19).” The fatalties of people who died with Covid despite having received two vaccines reflect the risk posed by the virus even among those who have been jagged and that while vaccines substantially reduce the chances of serious illness, they do not eliminate it entirely. An analysis of 14,019 cases of the dominant Delta variant in the UK, released by Public Health England in June, found the BioNTech/Pfizer and Oxford/AstraZeneca vaccines were, respectively, 96% and 92%  effective against hospitalisation after two doses.

The Return Of Snarky!

Filosofa's Word

Snippets, Snippets, have I ever got snippets today!  My body may be feeble, but there’s nothing wrong with my mind!

Today, the Food & Drug Administration (FDA) gave full approval for the Pfizer vaccine against COVID.  This does a number of things.

First, it removes the excuse the anti-vaxxers have been using for not getting the vaccine.  They said, “not without full FDA approval!”  Well, folks, now you’ve got that, so get your fat asses out there and get vaccinated … TODAY!

My granddaughter, astute for her young years, said, “I bet now they’ll say it was too fast.”  And lo and behold, just an hour after she said that I read this headline …

And if Fox says it, you know the nudniks will believe it.

Peršun – Petroselinum crispum

Google partial translation: Parsley – For calming the nerves, relieving pain, eliminating bloating, cleansing the blood, primrose is a great solution. Folk medicine doctors also recommend it as a medicine against fever, kidney disease, urinary tract diseases, diabetes, eye inflammation, stings, bites, and even impotence.
