Jolly Monday … Again? Already?

Filosofa's Word

Wh-What???  It’s Monday again already?  Where does time go?  I just wanna go back to bed!  Sigh … okay … I’m up … stop shaking me, Jolly!  Go help Joyful in the kit … um … never mind … stay out of the kitchen … just tidy up something and let me get awake here …

Oh!!!  Hello friends!  I didn’t realize you were here already!  Sorry … I seem to have overslept!  So, another Monday, eh?  How was your weekend?  Mine was rainy, but that’s okay … the grey rainy days matched my mood to a ‘T’, and … the rain meant I didn’t have to go out and water the flowers every morning!!!

Since I just woke up, I don’t know what Joyful has cooking, but something smells pretty good, so let’s go see what’s on the Monday buffet, shall we, and then we’ll find something to start…

♫ Slip Slidin’ Away ♫

Filosofa's Word

I hadn’t really given a thought to tonight’s music post yet, had just finished putting ‘Jolly Monday’ on the schedule and decided to take a short break and visit my friend Carolyn’s latest blog post, during the course of which, a word or two immediately brought this song into my head. And as we all know, once a song finds its way into my head, it usually ends up here!

Slip Slidin’ Away is a 1977 song written and recorded by Paul Simon of Simon & Garfunkel fame, which appears on his compilation album Greatest Hits, Etc.What I did not know, and was surprised by, is that the backup vocals were done by the Oak Ridge Boys … one of the few country groups I can tolerate.

According to Simon, the song is about how we can all watch our dreams pass us by and end up like…

Me pergunte, eu vou te responder!

Google translation of the introduction: Uruguay – Colonia del Sacramento
25. April 2018
During my one-year stay in South America in the 1960s, I had heard almost nothing of the small town of Colonia del Sacramento; the historic old town had not yet been restored and did not seem to be so interesting. I was in Montevideo more often at the time because I had a friend there who I visited regularly. However, I always took a “normal” ship from Buenos Aires to Colonia del Sacramento in three hours and climbed directly at the port into the interurban bus, which took me to Montevideo in about two hours. The trip used to be cheap, so I could do it so often. I was in Uruguay again 14 years ago with my daughter, but we were only in Montevideo and on the beaches of the east to Punta del Este. I have not yet visited the pretty small town of Colonia del Sacramento, just opposite Buenos Aires on the other side of the infinitely wide Rio de la Plata. I wanted to do that with my husband during this trip.

Colonia del Sacramento, a small town on the Rio de la Plata, is the oldest city in Uruguay. The former port city was built in 1680 by Portuguese troops for strategic reasons. During the colonial period, the small town was constantly contested and changed its commanders fifteen times within 150 years: it was alternately under Portuguese, then again under Spanish, and for a short time even under British rule, until Uruguay gained independence in 1825 and Colonia del Sacramento officially became in 1828 was handed over to the new state.
