Florida urged to ramp up vaccination effort amid ‘alarming’ Covid rise | Florida | The Guardian

“For weeks cases have been rapidly increasing so it’s curious to me as a physician when Governor DeSantis gave a speech basically poking fun at Dr Fauci,” Bernard Ashby, a Miami-based cardiologist and head of the Florida chapter of the Committee to Protect Health Care, said.

“While DeSantis is traveling around bragging about Florida’s handling of the pandemic, or lack of, and making fun of Fauci, doctors here are feeling like we are back at square one.”

Thailand sees new daily COVID-19 infections surpass 15,000

Thailand said Sunday its newly confirmed daily infections have surpassed 15,000 for the first time during the coronavirus pandemic, just a week after breaching the 10,000 mark. The number of new COVID-19 cases reached a record high of 15,335, with 129 deaths. Like much of Southeast Asia, the current wave of infections in Thailand has been fueled by the spread of the highly contagious Delta variant.

Earth, Fire, Wind, Water

Inhale Peace; Exhale Love. Joy will Follow! - RUELHA

Earth, Fire, Wind, Water. I respect you as your daughter. Of all these elements, I Am a living testament. The life they give. How they always forgive. All of our atrocities. When we deserve perpetual hostility. Mother Nature is beautiful. With gifts and treasures, bountiful. In her bosom I relax. Knowing she never subtracts. Earth, Fire, Wind and Water. The power and limbs of Mother Nature. Like a tornado or a whirlpool, I keep spinning. I move with the knowledge that I'm already winning. The world outside cannot fathom me. They assume I'm rotating recklessly. If only all could see the view from inside. In serene tranquility and calm I hide. I have love in my heart. I cannot rewind, but hit re-start. Because every moment is a gift. The sands of time, I do not sift. The only moment that exists is now. That is the only reality to…

A Damn Shame

Filosofa's Word

Margie Greene is among the dumbest people in Congress and, in the grand scheme of things, is largely irrelevant since she sits on no congressional committees and doesn’t even show up for work most days, now that she and sex trafficker Matt Gaetz are taking their two-person show on the road.

Approximately 732,000 people live in Margie’s district in Georgia, most of whom are not vaccinated against COVID.  In fact, her district ranks the 8th lowest vaccination rate in the nation, out of 435 districts nationwide.  And sadly, Margie is largely responsible for this.  She with her wild QAnon theories and denial of mask mandates, social distancing, and vaccines, has convinced the people in her district that the only thing they need to do to stay safe is … wait for it … lose weight.  Yep, folks, Margie used to run a gym, so she knows these things. 🙄

Context, Thought, and Learning: ShiraDest Offers Project Do Better

We live in a world swimming in documents, both online and in print, telling us things that we must decide how to use, as citizens of a republic.  Web sites are especially difficult to trace back to the initial source, since books have bibliographies and publishers that can be researched.  So, how would you solve part of the problem of verifying the veracity of a document, figuring out where the funding for a particular document or web site you are reading came from, and why those funders commissioned that site or study?

Today’s reading continues with atomic structure, but you can follow links to earlier pages on atoms, or go ahead with molecules, depending on what you’ve already covered in your science studies:

“The precise physical nature of atoms finally emerged from a series of elegant experiments carried out between 1895 and 1915. The most notable of these…

Arizona GOP Audit Director Barred From Recount After Sharing Data Supporting Trump Loss (Me: ROTFLMAO)

Republican overseeing the controversial GOP-backed election audit in Arizona has reportedly been banned from entering the building where the recount process is ongoing, after he shared some data with experts that showed the results match the officially certified numbers in Maricopa County.

The Arizona Republic reported on Friday evening that Ken Bennett, Arizona’s former Secretary of State who has been described as the audit’s “director,” was barred from entering the building on the state fairgrounds where the audit is moving forward. The newspaper reported that Bennett had shared some of the audit data with outside experts showing that the ballot recount was tracking “very closely” with Maricopa County’s certified results.

Cyber Ninjas, the Florida-based company conducting the audit on behalf of the state’s Senate Republicans, told the publication that state Senate President Karen Fann, a Republican, made the decision to block Bennett from the building. Newsweek reached out to Fann for further comment but did not immediately receive a response.

Vintage English Bicycle Head Badges

Frugal Average Bicyclist

One of the things I love about the old English bicycles are the really cool badges they all had. Here is a collection of some of these badges and a little info about the company:

Raleigh

Raleigh Bicycle Badge

Founded in 1887 and started with a small shop on Raleigh Street in Nottingham, England.  They would go on to buy up many of the other English bicycle makers and become the largest bike manufacturer in the world.  In 1960 they were bought by Tube Investments and TI-Raleigh was formed.

Triumph

Triumph Bicycle Badge

Began manufacturing bicycles in 1894. This is the same company that would go on to make motorcycles and cars. The brand was sold to Raleigh in 1954 for bicycles.

BSA

The Birmingham Small Arms Company was founded 1861 and made bicycles, motorcycles, and firearms. It began making bicycles in 1880. In 1957 the bicycle…
