तुम

Vivaldi translation: you
जून 07 2021
My hope, my courage
You are my boat
In the scorching sun
You are my shade
In a tired journey
You are comfortable
Of every question
You are the answer
Put in my books
You are a rose
Wake up at night
I’m dream
In the war of life
You are my shield
In the scorching sun
You are my shade
My hope, my course
You are my boat

How not to use technology to help with (machine) transcription | Wibble

Here’s the solution I came up with…

I thought I’d share my experiences with the solution I’ve tried in the hope that it might enlighten others. On the face of it, it appears to be a quite straightforward process:

  1. Select a YouTube video you want to transcribe.
  2. Convert it to an audio file (I used Ontiva: free, no registration required).
  3. Convert the audio file to text (I used Sonix: trial account includes 30 free minutes).
  4. Proofread the result.

More ITT Technical Institute students see loans forgiven – Chicago Tribune

The U.S. Education Department said Wednesday it’s erasing student debt for thousands of borrowers who attended a for-profit college chain that made exaggerated claims about its graduates’ success in finding jobs.

The Biden administration said it is approving 18,000 loan forgiveness claims from former students of ITT Technical Institute, a chain that closed in 2016 after being dealt a series of sanctions by the Obama administration. At the time it shut down, there were four ITT Tech campuses in Illinois: Arlington Heights, Oak Brook, Orland Park and Springfield.

The new loan discharges will clear more than $500 million in debt.

Turkish spies are abducting Erdogan’s political opponents abroad | openDemocracy

1 June, Orhan Inandi, a Turkish-Kyrgyz national was declared missing in the Kyrgyzstan capital, Bishkek. His car had been found early that morning, with its doors wide open and with valuables left inside. Many suspect he was kidnapped by the Turkish security services.

Inandi is the founder of a network of schools in Kyrgyzstan linked to the Gülen movement, which Turkish President Erdogan accuses of masterminding the 2016 coup attempt in Turkey. Inandi’s spouse has claimed to have information that her husband is being held in the Turkish embassy in Bishkek for rendition to Turkey.

This case is just the latest example of Turkey’s global campaign of abductions targeting its perceived enemies. Since the 2016 failed coup, which nearly saw Erdogan removed from power, he has lashed out against political opponents in Turkey. In one of the most sweeping purges of perceived dissidents in modern political history, thousands of military and police officers, judges, prosecutors, teachers, scholars and others have been fired or arrested, along with the discretionary use of anti-terror laws to prosecute any act of opposition as a crime against the state.

Accompanying these domestic repression strategies to contain challenges to the Justice and Development Party’s (AKP) power, though, is the use of extraterritorial forms of coercion – abductions and renditions of dissidents outside Turkey’s borders.

Good People (And A Critter) Doing Good Things

Good reading and deeds…

Filosofa's Word

Here we are back at Wednesday and guess what?  I found some good people to tell you about!  Surprised, aren’t you?

One heck of a gift …

17-year-old Verda Tetteh is a very smart young woman!  She graduated from Fitchburg High School in Massachusetts with a near-perfect 4.9 GPA and has earned a full scholarship to Harvard University!  Even so, her guidance counselor urged her to apply for a $40,000 merit scholarship her school would be awarding to one male and one female graduating student, saying it would help with expenses.  Verda says she had qualms about applying, but figured she wasn’t likely to win anyway, and her counselor seemed set on it.

So, imagine her surprise when on June 4th, during the graduation ceremony, the school’s assistant principal announced that she was the winner of the $40,000 award!  Stunned, she accepted the award, but then ten minutes…
