Without Exception

I send blessing
To everyone
Without
Exception

But
Most

Especially

To those
So miserable
They feel
That for any reason
They must make others
Miserable also

Alep, Sirija – Aleppo, Syria

Myrela

Letter VI – Land Ho! On the Port Side

Pacific Paratrooper

Dobodura, New Guinea

Just as Smitty expected, their destination was quickly coming up over the horizon. The fleeting glimpse of solid land, Milne Bay, New Guinea was only a short stopover for water (such a disappointment) and they continued their cruisenorth. The 11th Airborne Divisioncame upon the humming waterfront of ships manipulating to unload troops, supplies and equipment in OroBay. They witnessed a paradoxalview of organized chaos.

Down the rope ladders they went to the beach taxis, DUKWs (2 ton amphibious vehicles commonly called “ducks”) and onward to the awaiting shoreline. At latitude 8*52’60S and longitude 148*30’0E, thiswould become the first step for many a G.I. on foreign soil. Once they actually hitthe beach, the heat seemed to slam into the troopers and their uniforms became soaked within minutes, but they proceeded on to the Buna-Dobodura area to make their new base camp.

Killing Customer Relationships in the Name of Profit

Amen and amen

CRAIN'S COMMENTS

Let’s be clear. There are some customers that no business wants. They are needy, time consuming, demanding and sometimes indecisive. Put simply, they require too much time and attention or too much in the way of discounts to be worth having a customers. To survive with some level of sanity, the business owner needs them to go elsewhere.

However, we also have businesses driving good customer away by an excessive focus on cost-cutting. Further, the cost savings they seek may not be real.

Cost-savings as a goal represents a paradox. After all, the perfect company in terms of low cost makes nothing, sells nothing and has no employees. The cost of operations is zero, but so are revenue and value. How many companies really want to be that firm?

Apparently, a slick consultant can talk a management team into almost anything, including mergers that produce massive losses and automation that…

Jamaica Update, June 18, 2021: The city’s hottest day, Trench Town blues, and an Uber surprise

Petchary's Blog

Phew! What a week. We have been under a stifling blanket of Saharan dust for the past couple of days, and endured our hottest day ever in Kingston(June 12). The best thing to do is hide indoors in the daytime and come out to exercise etc. after dark. It has been an exhausting week. We all need to go away and do some meditation.

Agriculture: There has been a great “backyard gardening” project going recently – an effort to improve food security and even provide some income earning during the “stay at home” pandemic era. Eighty households(mostly female-headed) are now using “grow pots” made from recycled plastic by 360 Recycle, partnering with the Planning Institute of Jamaica (PIOJ), Canada Fund for Local Initiative (CFLI) and the Digicel Foundation’s “Plant Yuh Plate” initiative. It’s going well, I understand.

Sunday Afternoon Snark

Filosofa's Word

Somebody said to me once that she thought I should try ignoring the news for a week or more, just think about positive things, and see if my mood wouldn’t improve.  Well, I didn’t bother to try her suggestion, for I’m a news junkie.  I think it’s our responsibility to stay on top of what’s happening, not only in our own country, but in the world.  Y’see … it’s not all about me … happiness and joy aren’t the end goal here, but rather, at least in my book, leaving a positive mark in the world we occupy, making a difference somehow.  And that’s why things like these two snippets make me growl, put a scowl on my face, and why I must share my growls and scowls with you, my friends.  Happy Sunday!
