Blend it like a Thali

chapter18

Every late evening, before retiring for the day, my mother would boil a litre of milk, allow it to cool under the fan that is set to rotate at the highest speed and then do an obnoxious act of pouring a scoopful of butter milk on to it. The mix is then closed with a lid and kept aside overnight. The scene of adulterating a pot of pure, creamy and soul nourishing cow’s milk that I could, in those days, drain down in one single gulp, with a highly pungent, sour and almost spoilt liquid was, for a ten year old, insensible and intriguing as it was equally revolting. It could be, I thought then, a sort of a ritual to ward off the malignant affects of an evil eye rather than a procedure to manufacture the daily supply of dairy products for the family. The pot would have invariably…

° BLOG ° Gabriele Romano

I am still asking for readers to send their photos in, as at most I have a week’s contributions in reserve. Thank you! Today is Sunday, and that means another batch of themed bird photos from biologist John Avise. I particularly like this week’s theme, which involves two groups of animals. (As you’ll see, John…

Day 41/67 of GED in Five Months, cycles, and, “Wh” questions

Context, Thought, and Learning: ShiraDest Offers Project Do Better

Adulting often requires Public Library resources to answer important questions about issues ranging from the life cycle of an organism, as in today’s science reading, to election cycles. Or resources like the old “Who’s Who…” books that recorded facts like the number of presidents who have been impeached, and why. Questions like why, where, when, and of course, how, are key to understanding all sides of any issue, from biology to sociology, and our daily lives.

Heartbreak and Rage

Filosofa's Word

I’m sure that by now you’ve all heard about the collapse of Champlain Towers South, a 12-story beachfront condominium building in the Miami suburb of Surfside, Florida in the wee hours of Thursday morning.  You probably already know that there are 5 confirmed dead, 11 injured, and 159 people missing as of this writing.  This story is heartbreaking enough in and of itself, but a couple of things I read earlier this evening … add to the heartbreak and also the rage.

127 people escaped or were evacuated, some from the other side of the building, some from the collapsed side.  They did not have time to pack belongings and most have now lost everything they own.  Some are staying in nearby motels.  Friends and family of the missing have flown in to await word of their loved ones and they, too, are staying at nearby motels.  Those motels, two…

Delta Covid-19 variant: “the fastest” and you can take advantage of relaxation measurements. – Jean Carlos Duluc

“This variant Delta is faster, more capable, will attack the most vulnerable more effectively than the previous ones and if there are vulnerable people without vaccinating, they are at greater risk. All of these variants are lethal, but this one has more potential because it is more efficient in transmission and will eventually find people who will become seriously ill, hospitalized, and may die. We can protect those vulnerable people now, “Ryan said.

For its part, the epidemiologist of the WHO leading the response to the coronavirus Maria Van Kherkove, He insisted that vaccines continue to be effective against all variants, but stressed that obtaining maximum protection requires receiving the full immunization schedule.

Normand

Vivaldi translation of introduction: Normandy
Harcourt, 2016

Aliénor d’Aquitaine passed by. And her son, Richard the Lionheart. The land enchants you. Like the whole Normady region, calm, quiet, with small hamlets that have their story deep in history.

ore de drum

Harcourt, 2016

Vivaldi translation of introduction: The dog, the best friend of man in the world
11. November 2018
The dog is good for humans. To know this, it is not necessary to have the numerous studies that have been carried out on this topic. He has been a companion of humans for 15,000 years, he is the most versatile pet that can be imagined: guard dog, protector, therapy dog (e.g. guide dog), a living being who is always waiting for you, where you can get rid of everything that moves you and understands you. The dog is the best friend of man, he is an animal to love, not just for children. The dog also promotes the social contacts of the owner. The dog is loyal to the owner, or another caregiver from the family, until the end of life and partly beyond. So you sometimes read that a dog persists with its fatally injured owner at the scene of the accident until it is violently removed.
