Virility & The Virus: COVID found in penile tissue, may even lead to erectile dysfunction (ED) – Study Finds (Me: get vaccinated!)

“This suggests that men who develop COVID-19 infection should be aware that erectile dysfunction could be an adverse effect of the virus, and they should go to a physician if they develop ED symptoms,” Dr. Ramasamy suggests.

Just like so many other conditions being linked to COVID, like increased risk of heart disease or neurological symptoms, researchers say the nerve damage caused by the coronavirus may cause ED, or it may only worsen the condition.

Additionally, earlier research involving Dr. Ramasamy reveals evidence that COVID-19 can invade the testicles of some infected men.

“These latest findings are yet another reason that we should all do our best to avoid COVID-19,” adds first author Eliyahu Kresch, a medical student working with Dr. Ramasamy.

“We recommend vaccination and to try to stay safe in general,” Kresch concludes.

Democratic DA candidates go head to head as May 18 primary looms | Local News | phillytrib.com

WURD radio hosted a district attorney Democratic candidates debate Wednesday, as the race between Larry Krasner and Carlos Vega intensifies before the May 18 primary.

When asked about Krasner’s ongoing tensions with the police union, Krasner said they distinguish between the police department led by Commissioner Danielle Outlaw and the leadership of the Fraternal Order of Police (FOP).

Krasner said his relationship with the higher-level brass within the police department is “quite good” and that is entirely different than a relationship with John McNesby, who leads the FOP.

So far, (FOP president) McNesby “has defended the wearing of Nazi tattoos in uniform by a Philadelphia police officer while on duty. He has permitted members of the Proud Boys into the officers’ only area of FOP Hall to drink beer with police officers,” Krasner said. “A couple of months before the insurrection (he) referred to Black Lives Matter as ‘a pack of rabid animals’. He plays to the retired membership because most of the members of the FOP are retired. And so, he is not the voice of the present; he is not the voice of the police department.”

First Balloon Sighting

Michael Stephen Wills Photography

Pam and I enjoyed the local hot air balloon for the first time in 2021 floating directly in front of our home, along the valley formed by hills on the east and west, headed north toward Cayuga Lake and descending steadily, looked to have landed close by. I heard the “whoosh, whoosh” of the gas burner first and distinct from a jet landing at Tompkins County airport. Always a thrill to see one up close.

Wondering Wednesdays, Baby Acres, Chapter 1, part 1

Context, Thought, and Learning: ShiraDest Offers Project Do Better

This post continues the rough draft of  Chapter 1 of my non-fiction WiP, Baby Acres.  And it now has words!  🙂     I’m posting the first outline section, chapter 1, section IA, warts and all, so please be forgiving here, dear readers.  At the moment it is the best I can do.  This was only meant to be about 250-300 words, but I got a little, well, verbose, at 580 words, I guess.

I’ve also realized, or remembered, rather, from my thesis writing, that putting the outline up front and then the verbage, or writing the words, later, is a mess.   It is easier than having a separate spreadsheet for the outline and wordcount (though that process does work better for me when I am writing a novel, perhaps because there are so many more threads to keep track of, and also because I often struggle to hit my initial…

Open Letter To Republican Members Of Congress

Filosofa's Word

Dear Sir or Madam …

I would like to take this opportunity to remind you of a few things that you have obviously forgotten. You were not elected to the United States Congress to force your own will or vote for your own wishes, but rather you were elected to represent We the People, to vote in accordance with our wishes, not your own.

When you block legislation that would ensure we are all able to vote in elections, then you are not representing us, for nearly everybody in this country supports allowing everyone the opportunity to vote, to have a voice in our government. You may remember that we pay taxes in order to have representation. When you refuse to legislate gun laws that would make this a safer nation for us all, then you are not representing us, for the majority of people across the political divide have…

ICU Beds Overflow as COVID-19 Surges in Nepal | UNICEF USA

Doctors are struggling to treat patients gasping for breath in Nepal, where confirmed cases of COVID-19 have increased sharply in the past two weeks. UNICEF is on the ground, working with partners to support strained health systems and deliver critical lifesaving supplies.

“Two weeks ago, we didn’t even have 10 patients in the COVID-19 ward,” said Dr. Subash Prasad, intensive care specialist at Tribhuvan University Hospital in Kathmandu, the nation’s capital. “Now we have admitted around 75 people who have tested positive for coronavirus since then. And two weeks ago, we didn’t have any patients in the ICU. Now the 12-bed COVID ICU is full.” There are only 1,127 ICU beds in this country of 30,000 people.

The catastrophic second wave of COVID-19 cases that hit India first has spread to nearby nations especially Nepal, Sri Lanka and the Maldives. Very low levels of vaccination in most South Asian countries (less than 10 percent in India, Sri Lanka and Nepal) is adding to concern that the virus will spiral even further.
