Dr Pinto Back in the hospital, he says the team is more physically prepared for the second wave. Most of them have been vaccinated and treatment protocols have also been refined.

But, he adds, “nobody is mentally prepared”.

“We are doing everything we can, but we don’t have the same mental strength we had last year.”

The scenes in hospitals in India’s capital, Delhi, and its neighbouring areas are not too different. Dr Reshma Tewari Basu, the head of critical care at Artemis hospital in Gurugram (a suburb of Delhi), says hospital admissions are increasing every day.

Delhi has been averaging more than 3,500 daily cases in the past few days. “What’s happening in Mumbai will eventually happen in Delhi too,” Dr Basu says.

Vaccines are Singapore’s priority but are not silver bullets, minister says

Singapore needs a “suite of measures” beyond Covid vaccinations in order to open up its economy and allow international travel, said S Iswaran, minister for communications and information. Vaccinations need to be complemented by a “strong, robust testing regime” and safe management measures, he added. The minister also weighed in on Singapore’s decision to accept the International Air Transport Association’s (IATA) mobile travel pass from May.

Antonio Espinoza loved the Los Angeles Dodgers. He loved them so much that he was laid to rest in his favorite Dodgers jersey. His family and friends, including his 3-year-old son, donned a sea of blue-and-white baseball shirts and caps in his honor.

Espinoza died at age 36 of covid-19, just days after he got his first dose of a covid vaccine. He was a hospice nurse who put his life in danger to help covid patients and others have a peaceful death.
