What You Can and Can’t Do Once You’re Vaccinated – Mother Jones

  1. The CDC defines fully-vaccinated people as those who are two weeks out of their second dose of the Pfizer or Moderna vaccines and two weeks out of receiving the single-shot Johnson & Johnson vaccine.
  2. Fully-vaccinated people are also safe to interact with those who are not vaccinated, but those gatherings are limited to one household where members do not belong to a high-risk COVID category. “Here’s an example,” CDC Director Rochelle Walensky said in a White House virtual event announcing the guidelines. “If grandparents have been vaccinated, they can visit their daughter and her family, even if they have not been vaccinated, so long as the daughter and her family are not at risk for severe disease.”
  3. Fully-vaccinated people are also okay to refrain from quarantine measures if exposed to a potential outbreak, as long as they do not exhibit symptoms. Public mask-wearing and keeping physical distance in large gatherings should still be observed.

ASIA/MYANMAR – Two young people killed in the complex of the Catholic Cathedral surrounded by the military – Agenzia Fides

To avoid the beatings and the arrest, young demonstrators took refuge in the complex of the Cathedral of Saint Colomban but the soldiers began to open fire against the unarmed young people. The tragic toll is 2 young people killed and 7 injured. The Cathedral complex – reveal Fides sources – was surrounded by the army which intends to hunt down demonstrators.
In this context, there was the intervention of the Bishop Emeritus of the Diocese, His Exc. Bishop Francis Daw Tang, and Sister Ann Nu Tawng, the nun who became an “icon” of peace for having blocked the advance of soldiers in recent days, by kneeling in front of them. The nun tried to play a role of mediator between the demonstrators and the soldiers to avoid a massacre. Despite the call to the police force “not to arrest and prosecute peaceful demonstrators”, the agents opened fire and refused to leave the scene.
According to observers, the army occupied hospitals and university campuses last weekend and intensified night raids in preparation for another nationwide strike. Violence and arrests occurred in larger cities such as Yangon, Naypyitaw and Mandalay.
“We have received credible reports from hospitals occupied today in Myanmar, including at least four hospitals in Yangon and at least one in Mandalay”, said James Rodehaver, head of the UN human rights team in Myanmar. “This is completely unacceptable. Hospitals are places under the protection of international humanitarian law”, he said.

Supreme Court rejects final Trump bid to nullify 2020 election results | TheHill

In an unsigned order without noted dissent, the justices declined to take up Trump’s lawsuit alleging Wisconsin election officials violated the Constitution by expanding absentee voting amid the global coronavirus pandemic.

The justices’ move brought an end to Trump’s scattershot and ineffective legal campaign to overturn President Biden’s victory and added to the abysmal post-election court record of Trump and his allies, which included more than 60 losses and just one narrow win.

3 protesters shot dead in Myanmar as workers stage general strike

Three anti-coup protesters were shot dead by security forces on Monday, local media reported, as workers staged a general strike across the country and the military government moved to shut down independent local media outlets.

Two men were shot in the head in Myitkyina, capital of Myanmar’s northernmost Kachin State when security forces opened fire at a crowd of hundreds of protesters, while the third was shot in the chest in Phyarpon, a small town in the country’s southwestern Ayeyarwady Region.

In the second such large-scale strike since the Feb. 1 coup, at least nine labor unions from various sectors such as construction, manufacturing and agriculture called for the massive mobilization, shutting many businesses and factories.

Also Monday, the military government revoked permission of five local private media outlets to publish, including major broadcasters Mizzima and DVB, and Myanmar Now, an online media site widely respected for its powerful investigative reports.

Also among them were the relatively new but widely followed online based Khit Thit Media and the widely respected daily print edition publisher 7 Day News.

The Information Ministry order says they are not allowed to publish using any medium or technology.

8th Day of March – Fatcowco – Raymonde de Laroche (August 22, 1882 – July 18, 1918), is thought to be the first woman to pilot a plane.

Raymonde de Laroche (August 22, 1882 – July 18, 1918), is thought to be the first woman to pilot a plane.

In October 1909, de Laroche appealed to her friend, aviator and aeroplane builder Charles Voisin, to instruct her in how to fly.

1910 – The first woman to receive a pilot's license

Voisin’s aircraft could seat only one person, so she operated the plane by herself while he stood on the ground and gave instructions.

After she mastered taxiing around the airfield, she lifted off and flew 300 yards (270 m)

COVID Race Against Time | NeuroLogica Blog – (we cannot ease up – no matter how much we may want to)

This all means that now is not the time to let up on efforts to control the pandemic. It is not over, and in fact we may be entering the most critical phase yet. We need to reduce spread as much as possible to slow the emergence and spread of new variants, to give us time to get everyone vaccinated. Of course, everyone is tired of this pandemic and the restrictions that are in place, and there is real harm being done to industries, education, and mental health. But the harm will be greater if we don’t head off new variants before it’s too late. Source: COVID Race Against Time | NeuroLogica Blog

Glendalough View near Turlough Hill

Michael Stephen Wills Photography

Head west from the Monastic City at the foot of the valley, climb pass the waterfalls to reach this east facing viewpoint.

I am standing near the path pilgrims from the west of Ireland travelled to the Glendalough holy sites.

Also, at my feet are “sun stones” a white quartz used by the builders of the Newgrange monument of the Boyne River Valley.
