Agios Markos și Nea Moni

Din Kavala, după un periplu de douăsprezece ore pe puntea exterioară a unui vapor, în zori de zi, pe întuneric, am descins în insula Chios.

Eram nerăbdătoare să văd mănăstirea Nea Moni, o comoară de artă bizantină din secolul 11, clasificată în patrimoniul mondial UNESCO. După un kataif și o cafea la ibric, la prima oră a dimineții, am pornit într-acolo. În zare, dincolo de ape, se zărește Turcia.

Doar că mănăstirea nu este semnalată corespunzător, așa că în drum am făcut o confuzie și am intrat mai întâi la Agios Markos, alt locaș bizantin și ortodox, încă funcțional, cu un mic sector privat în care sunt găzduite chiliile câtorva călugări.

Nea Moni este cuibărit pe o costă de munte, între pini venerabili care alternează cu lumânările verde închis ale chiparoșilor. În istoria locașului, este semnificativ faptul că Sfântul Nectarie, tămăduitorul din Egina, a fost primit aici pentru…

Keir Starmer has abandoned the commitment to free movement of people in the European Union he made to Labour members during the party’s leadership contest.
The Labour leader said his party had to be honest with the public, and that if it won the next general election a major renegotiation of the Brexit treaty would not be possible.
