Social network allowing dangerous Covid theories to be shared, says Bureau of Investigative Journalism

Facebook is allowing users to profit from the spread of potentially dangerous false theories and misinformation about the pandemic and vaccines, including deploying money-raising tools on pages with content flagged up by the social media giant’s own factcheckers.

An investigation has found 430 pages – followed by 45 million people – using Facebook’s tools, including virtual “shops” and fan subscriptions, while spreading false information about Covid-19 or vaccinations.

Anti-vaccination protest leads to brief close of vax site entrance at Dodger Stadium

Everyone in line eventually got vaccinated, Ortiz said.

No arrests were made, said Los Angeles Police Department Officer Rosario Cervantes. The LAPD later tweeted out that it was not their department that shut the gates.

“Preliminary reports are that protestors remained peaceful,” LAPD said in the tweet.

About 50 anti-vaccine protesters milling about the entrance to the Dodger Stadium coronavirus vaccination site on Saturday, Jan. 30 prompted officials to close the gate for almost an hour before the protesters dispersed.

Traffic into the stadium was halted from 1:50 p.m. to 2:45 p.m., when people carrying signs and chanting slogans marched to the gates, which officials closed to prevent demonstrators from entering the site, said David Ortiz, a spokesman for the Los Angeles City Fire Department.

Images on social media showed people with signs reading “Covid = scam,” “99.96 survival rate,” and “Tell Bill Gates to Vaccinate Himself,” a reference to a baseless conspiracy theory that microchips would be implanted in vaccines that could be used to control the population by a New World Order.

Others chanted “This is not a vaccine,” “Sheep led to their slaughter” and “This is a treatment. You are submitting to be a lab rat in real time.”

Everyone in line eventually got vaccinated, Ortiz said.

No arrests were made, said Los Angeles Police Department Officer Rosario Cervantes. The LAPD later tweeted out that it was not their department that shut the gates.

LAPD officers were aware and prepared for the scheduled demonstration prior to protesters arriving, Cervantes said. She said she did not know how officers learned of the event and declined to discuss tactics about how officers prepared for the demonstration.

Health officials expect to vaccinate 12,000 people a day at the stadium, thought to be the largest vaccination site in the nation.

Neither Orange County nor City of Riverside law enforcement officials were adjusting security measures in response to Saturday’s protest at Dodger Stadium.

In Orange County, an incident management team consisting of county personnel, law enforcement and firefighters had security measures in place should such a disruption take place, Orange County Sheriff’s Department spokeswoman Carrie Braun said.

Disneyland in Anaheim and Soka University in Aliso Viejo are the two largest vaccination sites in the county.

At the Riverside Convention Center, the Police Department’s civilian personnel and medical workers administering the shots would alert police in the event of a protest, spokesman Ryan Railsback said.

“We’re just a quick phone call away,” he said.

Jodi Miller of the San Bernardino County Sheriff’s Department also said deputies would respond to calls for service as needed. The county is about to open two large sites, at the Auto Club Speedway on Tuesday, Feb. 2 and the Ontario Convention Center starting Thursday, Feb. 4.

The US Government’s Entire 645,000-Vehicle Fleet Will Go All-Electric

With 640,000 nonelectric vehicles, the federal fleet represents the annual output of about three or four automotive plants, Dziczek said. That’s not exactly the million jobs Biden promised in his announcement Monday. But it might be sufficient to convince car manufacturers to change their supply chains or shift their production to U.S. facilities.

Jalopnik reports:
The United States government operates a fleet of about 645,000 vehicles, from mail delivery trucks to military vehicles and passenger cars. On Monday, President Joe Biden announced that his administration intends to replace them all with American-made, electric alternatives…

In 2015, the government operated 357,610 gasoline vehicles and 3,896 electric ones; in 2019, those numbers grew to 368,807 and 4,475, respectively. That’s excluding the tens of thousands of E-85 [“flex fuel”] and diesel-based vehicles on the road, which, together, comprise nearly a third of the 645,047 total. So, yeah, there’s certainly a lot of work to do…

The Washington Post reports:
The declaration is a boon to the fledgling electric vehicle industry, which has grown exponentially in the past decade but still represents less than 2 percent of automobiles sold in the United States… “It’s important as a symbolic thing,” said Timothy Lipman, co-director of the Transportation Sustainability Research Center at the University of California at Berkeley. “But I think it also will have a way of helping to jolt the industry forward at a time when it kind of needed that….”

One of the biggest issues: Just three automakers currently manufacture electric vehicles in the United States, and none of those cars meet Biden’s criteria of being produced by union workers from at least 50 percent American-made materials. The closest is the Chevrolet Bolt, assembled at a General Motors plant in Lake Orion, Michigan. But most of that car’s parts — including the battery, motor and drive unit — are produced overseas. But that could easily change, said Kristin Dziczek, vice president of industry, labor and economics at the nonprofit Center for Automotive Research.

If Biden succeeds in making every car in the federal fleet electric, he would increase the total number of electric vehicles in the United States by more than 50 percent. “One of the big questions for companies is, ‘Is the consumer there?’ Well, [the government] is a big consumer,” Dziczek said. “Now they know there’s some solid demand from the government to support their early launches of new vehicles….” With 640,000 nonelectric vehicles, the federal fleet represents the annual output of about three or four automotive plants, Dziczek said. That’s not exactly the million jobs Biden promised in his announcement Monday. While you may have already heard about the bulletin, I wanted to share an experience my husband and I had a couple of days after the inauguration. We were out shopping and noticed a man dressed head to toe in fatigues, combat boots and wearing a balaclava that obscured most of his face. Keep in mind it was a 70 degree day. My husband is very well-versed with firearms and it seemed to him that the man was either carrying a large frame handgun in his cargo pants, or a brick. People in the state of Alabama are allowed to carry with a permit, but the way this person was dressed, and strolling leisurely around, not shopping, certainly gave us pause. Nothing happened and it wasn’t long before he left the…

Alphabet soup for the soul – “E”

pexels-photo-220201.jpeg

E is for Earth

The Earth that we occupy is drenched in various forms of life that are full of energy and intelligence, both visible and invisible to the human eye.

The energy we experience on earth is all around us, if is in everything and everywhere. The leaves of a tree that produce food for both humans and animals is made by and infused with a higher intelligence. it is also found in insects and organisms.

Is earth the only place that intelligent life can prosper in the entire cosmos?

As we expand our universal reach through space we will find out that undoubtedly we are NOT the only planet where intelligent life exists in such abundance, but you already knew that.

One of the most intriguing things about Earth is that it’s the only planet that we currently know of where so many life forms thrive together, so completely and complexly in a web of connectivity, where all these different life forms are structured to depend on each other for survival.

Another empirically fascinating fact is that Earth is a place with such extremes that the climate you are in can kill you or make you stronger.

A place where due to gravity we see oceans and lakes stick to the earth like glue and rainwater naturally falling out of the skies. A place that can erupt, shake or burn in an effort to regain control. A planet that can speak to the global awareness of all its inhabitants to wake up.

Often referred to as Gaia, or Mother Gaia, this planetary consciousness of Earth is a living breathing thing that plays by different rules which are much more sophisticated than meagre humans can currently fathom.

As for Gaia, she got fed up with waiting for us to take to fix the problems we created and decided to clean the causeways of Venice and patched the ozone later herself.
