COVID-19 continues to take its toll. Now a senior member of Jamaica’s health infrastructure has passed away from COVID-19 complications – a man whom Minister of Health and Wellness Christopher Tufton described this evening as a friend and a “hands-on Chairman,” whose advice and guidance he greatly valued. No good news on New Year’s Day – ORANGE COUNTY TRIBUNE California

According to the county health care agency, the tally of new cases was at 4,406 for Friday, a big increase from Thursday’s total of 610, but in line with previous days, as numbers approached record highs.

Deaths went from one to 26, but hospitalizations declined from 2128 to 2097. Patients in intensive care units went from 495 to 501.

Coronavirus: BMJ urges NYT to correct vaccine ‘mixing’ article – BBC News

Dr Mary Ramsay, Public Health England’s head of immunisations, said: “We do not recommend mixing the Covid-19 vaccines – if your first dose is the Pfizer vaccine you should not be given the AstraZeneca vaccine for your second dose and vice versa.”

Dr Ramsay added that on the “extremely rare occasions” where the same vaccine is unavailable or it is unknown which jab the patient received, it is “better to give a second dose of another vaccine than not at all”.

Ms Godlee urged the New York Times to print a “highly visible correction” as soon as possible.
