More Than 58 Percent of Kids in LA County’s Juvenile Halls Are Now Quarantined for COVID-19 Exposure | (Fix…before some die or suffer permanent damage)

At Central Juvenile Hall, the aging youth facility located northeast of downtown Los Angeles, on Saturday, December 5, nine kids were in quarantine for exposure to the virus.

Three days later, however, that number had jumped to 111 kids at Central who had been exposed and thus quarantined for 14 days.

In total, that is 207 kids — or 58.2 percent of the two halls’ combined population of 346 young people — who are being quarantined for two weeks because of their exposure.

“Our officers were asked to respond to people from outside our community whose purpose here was to disrupt local government in action, to intimidate their families,” McLean said in a statement Tuesday evening. “This is not ok. Let me be clear: we will hold offenders accountable.”

“Our community is being severely impacted by this virus and our team members and board are working tirelessly to protect our community’s health,” Russ Duke, district director for Central District Health, said in a statement Tuesday night. “We simply ask that those who may disagree with these difficult discussion points and decisions do so in a way  that is respectful and does not endanger our staff, board of health members, and our law enforcement, all who are critical in this response.”
