For Posterity’s Sake

lesson for now

yaskhan

I do not think anybody has the right
To see anybody as black or white.
To judge a person by his/her race
Discrimination is a disgrace
To humanity and to humaneness
Xenophobia is awefulness
Will man ever transcend these barriers
Erected through segregation carriers.
Have we been taught to see only in color
We have lessons to learn, lessons in valour.
What our heart needs is compassion's fervour
For all posterity to preserve, persevere.

The horror of El Paso’s latest COVID surge.

The state government has basically stripped local government of any power to take meaningful steps to abate the spread. So we’ve seen this to the point where 50,000 have been infected with COVID-19 in the past six weeks. I think we’ve become something of unwitting guinea pigs in an experiment on herd immunity, and the price we’re going to pay for that—we’ve already lost, by my best estimates, about 1,100 people. We’re going to lose another thousand or more between now and Christmas. Source: The horror of El Paso’s latest COVID surge.

In two tweets, Wine, whose real name is Robert Kyagulanyi, said police had violently broken into his vehicle and taken him into custody. Police did not immediately respond to a request for comment.
“The price of freedom is high but we shall certainly overcome,” Wine, 38, said in one of the tweets.

A local independent newspaper, Daily Monitor, reported demonstrators had erected barricades and lit fires on some roads in the capital Kampala and at least one other town to protest against Wine’s arrest.
Since expressing his intention to run against Museveni, Wine has won a large following, especially among young people in the east African country.

These Are the Days of Our Lives

Blogs Notes

“These Are The Days Of Our Lives”

Sometimes I get to feeling
I was back in the old days long ago.
When we were kids, when we were young
Things seemed so perfect. You know?

The days were endless, we were crazy, we were young.
The sun was always shining. We just lived for fun.

Sometimes it seems like lately.
I just don’t know.
The rest of my life’s been just a show.

Those were the days of our lives.
The bad things in life were so few.
Those days are all gone now,
But one thing is true
When I look and I find I still love you.

You can’t turn back the clock,
You can’t turn back the tide.
Ain’t that a shame?
I’d like to go back one time on a roller-coaster ride
When life was just a game.

No use sitting and thinking on what you…

ALTRUISM

quotidian

A prairie dog whistles to warn others of a hawk attack, so the hawk swoops straight down to eat the whistler. A mommy bear protects her cubs from predators risking her own life. This is an example of a concept that seems to be working against natural selection, called altruism.

Altruistic acts are considered acts of self-sacrifice, and therefore, they are generally regarded as the opposite of self-interested acts. In other words, its opposite of being selfish.

I first came across this word, ‘altruism’ while reading a book called, “The Virtue Of Selfishness” by Ayn Rand. Although I didn’t agree to most of her philosophies when I read the book ten years back, today, few do make sense. Whatever the moralists can disagree about, they will agree on few arguments I am putting forward.

Why is it that a son, who shifts to a different country to pursue his dreams…

Barbados Removes Lord Nelson Statue – Repeating Islands

Authorities in Barbados on Monday removed the 207 year-old statute of Lord Nelson from its capital, Bridgetown as Prime Minister Mia Mottley underscored the importance of emancipation to Barbados and the Caribbean.

The bronze statue had been erected on March, 22, 1813 in the area known as Trafalgar Square, opposite Parliament Buildings. In July, the Barbados government said it would remove the statue of Vice Admiral Lord Horatio Nelson from the National Heroes Square in the heart of the capital, with the Minister with responsibility for culture, John King, saying the Cabinet had agreed to its relocation.

Nelson visited Barbados in 1805 and was considered a hero by locals of the day for his battles against the French who controlled some of the other islands in the Caribbean.

King said the decision to remove the statue was made based on substantial consultations carried out about two decades ago by the National Heroes Square and Development Committee as well as the Committee of National Reconciliation. The call for the removal was also galvanised by the global movement to remove statues of persons many people had considered to be slave owners, human rights violators and symbols of colonialism.
