Pelosi Statement on Supreme Court Ruling Ending Census Early | Speaker Nancy Pelosi
“The Supreme Court’s decision to enable the President’s shameful campaign to curtail the Census is regrettable and disappointing. The President’s attack on the Census count and his refusal to provide time beyond December 31 for submission of the Census report clearly violate the Constitutional mandate enshrined by our Founders for a fair and accurate Census. Further, the President’s actions threaten to politically and financially exclude many in America’s most vulnerable communities from our democracy. “The Trump effort to end the Census early has been resoundingly rejected by experts, including in the Government Accountability Office, Commerce Department Inspector General and Census Scientific Advisory Committee, who all warn that the accelerated schedule will result in an inaccurate Census that will deny vulnerable communities the representation and funds they are entitled to. Specifically, the Census Bureau officials have stated that curtailing the Census is ‘ludicrous’ and will result in ‘fatal data flaws that are unacceptable for a constitutionally mandated national activity.’ “The House of Representatives will continue to fight in the Courts and in the Congress to ensure

Sen. Mazie Hirono confronted Amy Coney Barrett’s offensive use of ‘sexual preference’ while discussing LGBTQ rights – Vox
Barrett’s apology, however, was also telling, signaling that she seemingly hadn’t even realized that she was using harmful language. “I certainly didn’t mean and would never mean to use a term that would cause any offense in the LGBTQ community,” Barrett said. “So if I did, I greatly apologize for that. I simply meant to be referring to Obergefell’s holding with respect to same-sex marriage.” Obergefell v. Hodges, the landmark Supreme Court case guaranteeing marriage equality, is among the precedents that Barrett declined to provide a position on, citing the need to maintain impartiality — an approach many nominees have taken in the past. Her statement about “sexual preference,” however, revealed how out of touch Barrett appears to be in how she talks about LGBTQ rights, which she’d play a critical role in making judicial decisions about if she were to become a Supreme Court Justice.

New Mexico to renew coronavirus restrictions, warning of more if cases continue to rise | TheHill
New Mexico plans to renew several coronavirus restrictions on Friday, and officials warned of more to come if COVID-19 cases continue to rise in the state.
New Mexico Gov. Michelle Lujan Grisham (D) announced the new rules, which will include restricting indoor dining and limiting mass gatherings, on Tuesday, saying that the virus is “booming” in the state.
The governor instituted a temporary closing time of 10 p.m. for all food and drink locations that serve alcohol, which she said the state will “rigorously enforce.” The caps for retail and dining establishments as well as hotels will be rolled back.
