Here’s More Proof Donald Trump Is a Big Weenie With An Incredibly Fragile Ego, In Case You Need It

Last year, the Finnish investigative journalist Jessikka Aro, who seems very cool and smart, was slated to receive the State Department’s International Women of Courage Award for her coverage of Russian troll farms. But then, as Foreign Policy first reported at the time, the State Department then took the award back after officials very belatedly found social media posts she had made that were critical of Donald Trump. Naturally, they then covered their asses by proclaiming that Aro was “incorrectly notified” that she was to receive the award. As a department spokesperson told reporters, “This was an error. This was a mistake.”

But now, even the State Department’s own internal watchdog has verified the news reports that Aro’s award was rescinded because she was too critical of Trump. umjeypukjmwlevxskyjq.jpg

EU takes action against fake news

the European Parliament has set up a special committee that has now set to work. Their remit goes far beyond disinformation about the virus itself. The EU has observed not just public health disinformation, but attempts by foreign powers including Russia and China to undermine democracy in the EU and weaken the global role of the bloc.

The committee intends to begin by finding out what issues are targeted in the spread of disinformation. One of the main issues remains attempts to influence elections. Shortly before the most recent European elections, Members of the European Parliament (MEPs) reported massive Russia propaganda campaigns, which went further than disinformation spread via social media.

The MEPs revealed cyberattacks on electoral infrastructure, and that political bodies in their own countries were directly or indirectly financially supported by foreign powers. For example, the party of French right-wing populist former MEP Marine Le Pen was suspected of receiving money

‘The plan was simple’: Navalny speaks about poisoning and plane ride

The 44-year-old thanked the pilots for diverting the plane to Omsk, despite a bomb warning that was phoned through to the airport there.

He also credited the airport medical officers and ambulance team who “did not say any lies about diabetes, etc., but immediately clearly said: ‘this is toxic poisoning’ and gave me a dose of atropine.”

Russian opposition leader Alexei Navalny says he owes his life to the pilots who made an emergency landing when he fell into a coma on board a plane.

Around the world – from the UK to Finland, Spain, Brazil, Lebanon and Australia – teams of researchers are training dogs to sniff out Covid-19. And some say the idea of training hundreds of thousands of canine noses to check for coronavirus is not as far-fetched as it may sound.

How do dogs do it? At Finland’s Helsinki airport, where four Covid-19 sniffer dogs have begun work in a state-funded pilot scheme, passengers dab their skin with a wipe, which is placed in a beaker next to others containing control scents. If the dog detects the virus – shown by yelping, pawing, or lying down – the passenger takes a free swab test to verify its verdict.

Why Arizona Is Tilting Blue: ‘The State’s Clearly in Motion’

If Joe Biden wins the state, it would be only the second time a Democratic presidential candidate has done so since 1952. But Arizona has been trending more friendly to the party for years.

Facebook suspends fake Russian accounts, warns of US vote threat

Facebook said on Thursday it has dismantled three networks of fake accounts which could be used by Russia’s intelligence services to leak hacked documents as part of efforts to disrupt the upcoming US election.

The company said the networks had about 97,000 followers when combined. It added that the accounts were linked to Russian intelligence and people associated with a St Petersburg-based organisation accused by the US of working to sway the 2016 presidential vote. Moscow has repeatedly denied allegations of election meddling.

“Our team watches for the threats and trends that we need to be ready for and one that we are very aware of … is a hack-and-leak operation, particularly in the next 6-8 weeks. We want to make sure that the accounts are down to prevent their ability to pivot them to facilitate a hack-and-leak around the US election”, said Facebook’s head of cybersecurity policy, Nathaniel Gleicher.

Earlier this month, Facebook said that a Russian influence operation posed as an independent news outlet to target left-wing voters in the US and Britain.

Microsoft this month said it has recently alerted one of US Democratic presidential candidate Joe Biden’s main election campaign advisory firms that it had been targeted by suspected Russian state-backed hackers.
