Patrick Bouet, head of the professional body the National Order of Doctors, said that the health system could soon be overwhelmed despite new restrictions imposed on Marseilles and to a lesser extent Paris and other cities. Bouet suggested that health minister Olivier Veran should have been much tougher last week when he announced new local restrictions. “We do not want to confine the country again”, Veran said.
The restrictions come after authorities reported 14, 412 new infections across France on Saturday. The country is now seeing dozens of hospital deaths per day compared to only a handful in late July and early August.
