On Saturday, Michigan State University reported 342 cases of coronavirus linked to the school and urged students to quarantine and avoid gatherings. Ingham County now has 2,525 cases of COVID-19 and has asked people in several large properties to quarantine as well.
Michigan reached its highest daily count since April 24 on Friday with 1,313 cases and nine deaths from COVID-19.
In the past seven days, the state added 5,652 cases and 69 deaths.
State health officials published new data this week that showed the state’s coronavirus positivity rate was higher in the spring than originally disclosed, even as public officials cited the data to justify business reopenings during the pandemic. Over 20 states aren’t including results from a type of rapid COVID-19 test in their overall case numbers, according to a survey by Kaiser Health News (KHN). The federal government is sending millions of these types of tests all around the country in an effort to keep up with the pandemic. If states don’t release the results from those tests through their public health departments, it creates a blind spot in the overall data.
The tests, called antigen tests, work by detecting a small protein on the surface of the coronavirus. They tend work much faster than the tests that look for the virus itself, called PCR tests, although they can be less accurate.
According to the KHN survey, 21 states and the District of Columbia don’t report all of their antigen test results. Fifteen states and DC don’t count positive antigen test results as confirmed cases, and nearly half of the 48 states that responded to the survey said that their antigen test results are probably underreported.
“This guy grabbed my bike and he wouldn’t let it go,” Craig said, recalling that the officers were asking him questions to purposefully trip him up. “I was like, ‘Oh you got this all wrong, this is my bike, don’t worry, this isn’t a stolen bike,’ and he would not believe me.”
“I was absolutely heartbroken,” he continued, “And I finally said to him, ‘Listen, you can take me to my house and I will prove to you this is my bike.’ “
So the two officers brought Craig back to the Robinsons’ house, where Marian was waiting for them at the front gate.
“You know how mom is,” Craig told his sister. “Mom was like, ‘Go in the house.’ You know how when she’s ready to talk to somebody, she’s like, ‘All right go in the house.’ And all I could think of was: This dude’s about to get it.”
Marian, 83, said she confronted the police officers, who were both Black, about why they continued to press Craig about the bike after one of the officers admitted they knew the boy was telling the truth.
“What you did was cancel out a whole lot of things that we had been teaching them,” Marian remembered telling them. “And I think you need to come back here and talk to them and at least admit you made a serious mistake, so that you won’t cancel out everything we’ve been trying to teach our children.”

President Trump revisited the idea of getting a payment as part of a deal between Oracle and TikTok but said that lawyers had suggested it wouldn’t be legal.
CNN reports both Facebook and Twitter have deactivated accounts linked to a social media campaign led by Turning Point Action. The campaign was essentially a troll farm but instead of bots, they paid teenagers to use their real accounts without disclosing they were working with TPA. A report by the Washington Post found the operation had thousands of identical posts, all sharing false or misleading information. Some of the posts said that coronavirus numbers were being inflated and warned “Don’t trust Dr. Fauci.” One of the accounts left a comment on Facebook saying that mail-in ballots “will lead to fraud for this election.” Source: Facebook and Twitter Remove Turning Point Action Spam Accounts
