10,000 women march to demand that Belarus president resign | The Seattle Times
About 10,000 women marched noisily through the Belarusian capital on Saturday, beating pots and pans and shouting for the resignation of the country’s authoritarian president in the 35th consecutive day of large anti-government protests.
Many carried portraits of Maria Kolesnikova, a leader of the opposition Coordination Council that is seeking a new presidential election for the ex-Soviet nation of 9.5 million people. She was jailed this week after police tried to force her out of the country. Her lawyer says Kolesnikova was driven to the border with Ukraine, but tore up her passport and refused to leave Belarus.
Others carried placards reading “ “You painted my heart with blue pain,” referring to President Alexander Lukashenko’s claim that some women previously had painted themselves to appear to have been bruised by police beatings.

New Jersey governor says he would have shut state down earlier if Trump was honest about coronavirus threat – CNNPolitics
New Jersey Gov. Phil Murphy said Wednesday he would have taken more aggressive action to fight Covid-19 if President Donald Trump had been more honest about the true threat of coronavirus during the early days of the pandemic.
Murphy’s comments come after CNN obtained audio tapes of Trump telling legendary journalist Bob Woodward that he knew weeks before the first confirmed US coronavirus death that the virus was dangerous, airborne, highly contagious and “more deadly than even your strenuous flus,” and that he repeatedly played it down publicly.
Murphy said Wednesday had he known — as Trump did — that the virus was airborne, he would’ve taken steps earlier to protect his state.
Pompeo’s wife assigned State Dept. work on secretary’s behalf using private email
Secretary of State Mike Pompeo assigned official government work to one of his top advisers through his wife, Susan, who used a private email account to relay his requests, according to newly released testimony.
The spouse of a Cabinet member would not be expected to have a government email account if they are not employed by the government. But Susan Pompeo’s influence over official personnel and activities at the State Department, as a private citizen, has raised concerns on Capitol Hill and within the department.
It has become part of an ongoing inquiry in the State Department inspector general’s office on the misuse of government resources.
