Trump launches unprecedented attack on military leadership he appointed – CNNPolitics

“The President’s comments about the motivations of military leaders not only demeans their service and that of those they lead; he lends credence to the very disdain and thoughtlessness he tries to deny,” retired US Navy Rear Admiral and CNN analyst John Kirby said.

Illinois reports 1,403 new COVID-19 cases, 5 additional deaths – Chicago Sun-Times

Illinois health officials Sunday announced 1,403 new confirmed cases of COVID-19, a sharp decline from the massive daily tally reported a day earlier.

On Saturday, Illinois reported 2,806 new coronavirus cases, one of the highest daily totals since the state’s worst period of the pandemic.

The new cases also come two days after the state recorded 5,368 cases of the coronavirus, a record high the Illinois Department of Public Health attributed to three days’ worth of delayed test results due to a data-processing backlog.

Steroids help only certain COVID-19 patients, Pa. expert explains

New studies show that treating critically ill COVID-19 patients with inexpensive steroids can cut their risk of dying from the illness by a third. The results are so clear that the World Health Organization changed its advice on Sept. 2 and now strongly recommends corticosteroids as a first-line treatment for the sickest patients.

Steroids aren’t risk-free, however. They can have side effects, and they could do more harm than good in patients with milder cases of COVID-19.

Here is object #1 from my catalog PRE-CONTACT for the Parcours des Mondes show in Paris that I am doing in absentia. Boiken Ancestral Spirit Figure, New Guinea One of the most salient characteristics of a pre-contact New Guinea sculpture is the absence of straight lines. Maybe it is the sharpness of a metal blade that produces or enables the crisp and exact edges. Or maybe it is less about the mechanics of the tool and something more philosophical about the nature of that reality that makes straight edges incongruous. Small figures such as this were used either as portable charms or as shrine objects with an individual history and specific sphere of influence—such as aiding in the hunting of wallaby. The glossy, worn and aged brown patina attests to a long, successful ritual life. There is a cherished feel to the sculpture. Small enough to fit nicely in the hand, its composition encourages handling. The emaciated torso with sucked-in stomach and curved back is mirrored by the thin arms reaching forward to grip the tip of the long, beaked nose. The domed head is fitted snugly right into the shoulders. The opposed arcs of body, limbs and nose create a strong and stable structure that belies its apparent frailty. The spirit present here does not convey a sense of power but of age, wisdom, familiarity, even intimacy. . . . . . . #oceanicart #newguineaart #artoceanien #parcoursdesmondes #artspremiers #masterpiece #primitivism #archdigest #surrealism #artconsultant #artadvisor #livingwithart #patina #artcollector #artcatalogue #connoisseur #modernism #midcentury #interiordesign #luxurydesign #artandculture #artresearch #theexquisite #psychedelic #coveted #artresearch #polynesianart #andrebreton #contemporaryart #losangelesartgallery
