Photoessay: Old normal — Ming Thein | Photographer

It’s hard to imagine this set was shot just a month before COVID threw a wrench into everything – I wonder if we’ll ever see the same kind of energy and vibrancy again, or if we do, how long it’ll take to overcome the collective paranoia that the person coughing next to you might be […]

Georgia Governor’s Order Rescinds Local Mask Mandates : Coronavirus Live Updates : NPR (Georgia two-step- one back to cancel the step forward- sad)

Kemp on Wednesday extended the state’s COVID-19 restrictions, which strongly encourage the wearing of masks, but stopped short of requiring them in public, calling such a measure “a bridge too far.”

His order explicitly rescinds mask orders in such key cities as Atlanta, Savannah, Athens and Augusta, along with more than a dozen other local jurisdictions where similar directives have been issued.

Kemp, a Republican, has been at odds with mayors and city administrators over the issue in recent days. Last week, for instance, Atlanta’s Democratic Mayor Keisha Lance Bottoms announced a return to tough measures to control an ongoing spike in coronavirus infections in the capital, but Kemp’s office insisted that her order was “non-binding and legally unenforceable.”

Coronavirus: NCID says no cases of reinfection among recovered patients in Singapore, Health News & Top Stories – The Straits Times

Professor Ooi Eng Eong, deputy director of the emerging infectious diseases programme at Duke-NUS Medical School, said that antibodies are but one part of the immune response that would protect patients from reinfection.

“Measuring only antibodies thus misses the other half of the immune response – those mediated by killer T-cells,” said Prof Ooi.

“Using antibody levels alone to infer immunity could thus be misleading.”

Both antibodies and T-cells are important elements of the human immune response against viral infections due to their ability to directly target and kill infected cells.

Separately, Singapore scientists found in another study the presence of virus-specific T-cell immunity in people who have recovered from Covid-19 and severe acute respiratory syndrome (Sars), as well as in some healthy study subjects who have never been infected by either virus.

“Something will happen to you,” Murphy said during the appearance on 1010 WINS in New York City. “If you’re a real knucklehead and you come in and you flagrantly violate this, the commissioner of health in New Jersey has the teeth to go after you. And she won’t hesitate to do that.” “We’re just asking folks to do the right thing here,” he added.

Is Reopening Schools As Easy As Trump Seems to Think? — Rcooley123’s Blog

The following was recently shared on Facebook by Gary Mack. It illustrates quite well the contrast of Donald Trump’s call for the reopening of schools with the reality of what would be involved in actually doing so in a responsible manner. In terms of the ongoing Covid-19 pandemic and this country’s response to it, the […]

“Let’s revoke the NYPD’s ability to issue press credentials entirely. They’ve repeatedly proven that they are unwilling and unable to oversee a legitimate process,” Scott Stringer, the city’s comptroller, tweeted. Keith Powers, a City Council member, tweeted that he was considering legislation that would move credentialing to a new agency.

British Vogue editor racially profiled by magazine’s security guard | World news | The Guardian

Edward Enninful, who is black, has been the fashion magazine’s editor-in-chief since 2017. He said the incident took place as he walked into his offices on Wednesday.

“Today, I was racially profiled by a security guard whilst entering my work place. I was instructed to use the loading bay. Just because our timelines and weekends are returning to normal, we cannot let the world return to how it was. Change needs to happen now.”
