Florida sets daily record with 9,585 new COVID-19 cases

Florida has continued its morbid streak of breaking coronavirus records — reporting 9,585 new cases of COVID-19 Saturday, the state’s Department of Health confirmed. Saturday’s tally surpassed Friday’s record-breaking 8,942 cases and brings the Sunshine State’s total of confirmed cases to 132,525, according to the Miami Herald.

Florida has reported nearly 40,000 new infections in just over a week — which accounts for about a third of all cases since the pandemic began, the newspaper reported.

SARS-CoV-2 has been evolving for at least 7 years

The ancestral protein gave rise to various descendants, one of which is the RaTG13. Since this was around in 2013, the researchers conclude that the ancestral strain existed as early as that year, at least. In other words, the N0-N1 branch has been evolving for at least 7 years.
