Guardian admits it will not allow readers to criticise its journalists

“It seems hacks like to dish it out – but can’t take it back.” They are saving the world with their words, so how could they be wrong or criticized? – Reason that non-traditional news keeps growing. Problems of too little fact checking and too much spin – invades all.

Pride's Purge

(not satire – it’s the UK press)

In an extraordinary article today – the Guardian’s so-called ‘reader editor’ Stephen Pritchard admits the newspaper will delete any readers’ comments which “persistently” criticise its journalists.

Pritchard rounds off his extremely defensive piece with this extraordinary sentence:

….while we acknowledge criticism of the articles we publish, we will not allow persistent misrepresentation of our journalists.”

In other words, for “persistent misrepresentation” read “criticism“‘

Which at least explains why for several years now I have been banned (not pre-moderated – banned) from commenting on the Guardian website and my polite enquiries as to why I have been banned have been consistently ignored:

So now I know.

Because while I don’t use degrading, sexist or racist language, I do take a pretty persistent line in criticism of journalists from all mainstream newspapers- including the Guardian:

800 Israelis Demonstrate Against ‘Jewish State’ Bill In Front of Netaneyahu’s Residence

Hundreds of Israelis gathered on Saturday night in front of Netanyahu’s residence, in protest of the “Jewish State” Bill he proposed last Sunday.

The Crowd consisted of left wing Israelis and members of Peace Now movement. The police reported that the protesters carried signs that condemn Netanyahu’s Bill draft because it serves democracy to Jews only.

you are still here: a poem to remind you – {peace.love.free}.

{Because there are times that the very force of your reality – the relentless pace, the depths of what has been won and lost and seen and done and of all that relies on you, the pressing weight that you feel when you first wake up in the morning and the inescapable pressure to stay or to go or to know exactly the right thing – will make you feel both under intense observation and yet entirely and completely transparent to the point of invisibility.  Because there have been those times in my life and I know that there have been those times in yours.  Because of that, I remind you now.  You are still here.  I see you.  I hold you.  There is a safe space for you here. }

The Coalition Government Colouring and Activity Book is now available:

Better than Lester Maddox’s coloring book which was just empty pages – grin. But Lester would be judged too liberal by this coalition – Like their 6 months and out you go if applied to government’s that do not make life better for all.

You can now get a full copy of the Coalition Government Colouring and Activity Book either as a PDF download (£1.94):

The book will hopefully make a perfect stocking-filler just in time for Christmas for anyone you know who isn’t a fan of the present government.

Or on second thoughts, why not annoy someone who is a big David Cameron or Nick Clegg fan by giving them a copy too?

New Book–Becoming Belafonte: Black Artist, Public Radical

Repeating Islands

Mike Wold reviews Judith E. Smith’s Becoming Belafonte: Black Artist, Public Radical for RealCHangeNews.com.

One singer you won’t likely hear on a ’50s oldies station is Harry Belafonte, yet he was one of the most popular singers of that decade. He made a name for himself in the emerging “folk” music genre, with five gold albums between 1955 and 1963. For a time, he was outselling Elvis Presley. His repertoire anticipated “world music;” he incorporated musical traditions from the Caribbean, Africa, Ireland and the U.S. in his singing. By the early 1960s, his brand of smooth traditional folk was overtaken in popularity by grittier singer-songwriter acoustic music, rock-and-roll and soul.

Belafonte was a “breakthrough” African-American artist at a time when black performers usually needed special permission to play for white audiences, especially in the South. Even in New York City, racially mixed audiences were discouraged by the authorities. Belafonte wasn’t content…

Binyamin Netanyahu’s nationality bill is at odds with the Hebrew Bible

It’s politics, racism, and xenophobia, not religious belief driving them!

Deuteronomy 10:19 goes as follows: “And you are to love those who are foreigners, for you yourselves were foreigners in Egypt.” Its not a one-off passage. Again and again precisely this formula of expression is used to encourage identification with people who find themselves living in someone else’s country and culture. And this sense of solidarity is such that the Bible insists that both Jews and non-Jews are to be subject to the same laws, the latter having the same legal protections as the former. The Book of Numbers has it thus: “The community is to have the same rules for you and for the foreigner residing among you; this is a lasting ordinance for the generations to come. You and the foreigner shall be the same before the Lord. The same laws and regulations will apply both to you and to the foreigner residing among you.”

This passage clearly demonstrates that the latest move by the Israeli prime minister, Binyamin Netanyahu, is a direct contradiction of the Hebrew Bible, both in word and in spirit. For the new nationality bill that he and others are currently fighting to get through the Knesset is designed to deny national rights to non-Jewish Israeli citizens. In its supporters’ minds it is supposed to be all about expressing the Jewish nature of Israel, that this is a state whose lifeblood is Judaism. And as its detractors have pointed out, this sets Israel’s Jewish character above its democratic character, defying the founding principles of Israel as expressed in the declaration of independence in 1948. This is bad enough, but what makes the move utterly absurd is that it flies in the face of the very religion that it is designed to protect.
