Selfies

Talking loud and walking down the street – the same thing?

Night Owl Poetry - Dorinda Duclos

Uncertain of how the world views me
I take my phone and hold it
Arms length from my face
And click the button

The lonely soul looking back at me
Is someone I do not recognize
I must be doing something wrong

I take more pictures, too many to count
Determined to capture
Through someone else’s eyes
The image I see of myself

  1. The basis behind this poem is about self-image and loneliness, not arrogance. The people who walk and talk loudly don’t really care about who’s around them. While they both may have the “attention getting” quality, they have completely different meanings.

  2. Could well be there is more arrogance than loneliness but some, I think, do so because they are lonely and have to be talk to other and be noticed to feel as if they are somebody and are connected. Maybe a different poem – grin.
