Israeli forces escort worshipers to Joseph’s Tomb in Nablus | Maan News Agency

Muslims cannot worship in Jerusalem but… Hundreds of Jewish worshipers escorted by Israeli troops arrived overnight Thursday at Joseph’s Tomb near Balata refugee camp east of Nablus, locals said.

Local sources told Ma’an that over a dozen buses guarded by Israeli forces arrived at the tomb, who were deployed onto the rooftops of nearby homes during the visit.

Worshipers performed religious rites from midnight until the early morning hours, during which time Israeli soldiers remained stationed on the rooftops of private Palestinian homes.

US: “Thanks, anti-vaxxers. You just brought back measles in NYC”

The #measles hashtag is full of links to this angry article in The Daily Beast by Dr. Russell Saunders: Thanks, Anti-Vaxxers. You Just Brought Back Measles in NYC. Click through for the full article and several good links. Excerpt:

There is currently an outbreak of measles in New York City.  Considered eliminated in the United States in 2000, last year saw a record number of outbreaks around the country. It’s only three months into 2014, and not only is the nation’s largest city seeing cases in several boroughs, but other major metropolitan areas are warning of new cases as well.

This is not some inconvenience to be laughed off. Measles is a highly-contagious illness caused by a virus.  It usually presents with a combination of rash, fevers, cough and runny nose, as well as characteristic spots in the mouth. Most patients recover after an unpleasant but relatively uneventful period of sickness.  Unfortunately, about one patient in every 1,000 develops inflammation of the brain, and one to three cases per 1000 in the United States result in death.

Thousands pray in Jerusalem streets amid new Aqsa restrictions | Maan News Agency

Restricting access to exercise religious beliefs is democracy?

Thousands of worshipers prayed in the streets of Jerusalem on Friday after Israeli authorities imposed new restrictions on Palestinians’ right to pray inside the holy Al-Aqsa compound.

The compound — which is the third holiest site in Islam — was mostly empty on Friday after Israeli authorities prohibited all Palestinians under the age of 40 from praying there and set up barricades at the compound’s entrances to limit their access.

Many worshipers prayed at the gates of the compound while others prayed at the entrances to the Old City, although a limited number were able to pray inside the Al-Aqsa compound.

Stories From The Republican Fringe – ‘Rafael Cruz blames California drought on UN Agenda 21, ‘Mother Earth worship’

‘A little-known United Nations sustainable development plan is behind California’s worst drought in a century, according to conservative pastor Rafael Cruz’.

“There is more than one way to confiscate private property,” the father of Sen. Ted Cruz (R-TX) said last Saturday in Longview, Texas. “Have any of you heard of Agenda 21? Agenda 21 is all about confiscation of private property. It’s all about the worship of Mother Earth. You know, in California they are trying to tear down all the dams to let the rivers flow freely. They’ve created a drought in southern California to save a little fish, a little minnow.”

‘Agenda 21 is a non-binding action plan developed by the United Nations to promote “sustainable human settlement development.”

Not Your Grandfather’s Disease: Youth Change the Conversation About Type 2 Diabetes | Civil Eats

Most young people consider diabetes a “grandfather’s disease,” inherited at birth. They don’t always know that there are two very different forms of the disease, and that type 2 diabetes is preventable. This lack of awareness has staggering implications—between 2000 and 2008, rates of diabetes and prediabetes among Americans ages 12 to 19 shot from 9 percent to 23 percent.

That’s where the The Bigger Picture comes in. Youth Speaks, a San Francisco based arts nonprofit that empowers teenagers through poetry, teamed up with the University of San Francisco’s Center for Vulnerable Populations in 2010 to launch a project that encourages young people to “raise their voice and change the conversation around type 2 diabetes.”
